May was a month of momentum for the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association (ACA). From spotlighting the value of beef in our state to developing tomorrow’s leaders and preparing for the 67th annual Convention & Tradeshow. Here’s a look at what kept us busy:

Celebrating Beef Month in Arkansas

The Arkansas Department of Agriculture hosted an event celebrating the beef, egg and strawberry industries. The ACA was honored to participate by cooking burgers for attendees, showcasing the quality of Arkansas-grown beef. Governor Sanders recognized the vital role cattle producers play in our state’s economy and food supply by proclaiming May as Arkansas Beef Month.  

Arkansas Cattlemen's Leadership Course

The Arkansas Cattlemen's Leadership Course (ACLC) continues to make a lasting impact as it prepares future industry leaders. Participants in Session Two spent time in May traveling across Central Arkansas, visiting diverse operations that represent the full scope of the cattle business.

Stops included:

• Wahrmund Farms – A commercial cow calf and feeder operation in Morrilton.

• Big D Ranch – A Brangus seed stock and cow calf operation in Center Ridge.

• Dr. Cy Shurtleff’s clinic – A large animal vet in Morrilton.

• Farm Credit – Discussed financial tools and ag lending available to producers.

• Terraced Acres Ranch – A registered Black Angus operation in Dover.

• AR Department of Agriculture – Heard from the various sectors about the services they provide producers

As we continue to invest in these cattlemen and cattlewomen, their perspective and passion will help shape the future of our industry.

Arkansas Cattle Business Podcast

The Arkansas Cattle Business Podcast continues to deliver timely and relevant conversations for cattle producers:

Dr. Kirsten Midkiff discussed summer transition issues, including parasite management and fly control and addressed concerns about the New World Screwworm.

Chief Bill Black from the Arkansas Department of Agriculture shared insights on preventing theft, securing property and responding to farm-related crimes.

Membership Drive

ACA membership dues must be renewed by June 30 to maintain active status. Membership benefits include legislative representation, educational resources and a subscription to the Arkansas Cattle Business magazine.
