January Roundup: Membership Momentum, New Opportunities & Weathering Winter

As we kick off a new year, January was full of forward-momentum for Arkansas producers — from expanding membership opportunities to launching key programs and celebrating milestones with the ACA family. Here’s a look back at what we accomplished together:

January marked the official launch of our 2026 Membership Drive — a crucial time to grow engagement and strengthen advocacy for Arkansas producers. Whether you’re a returning member or joining for the first time, now is the time to get involved and make your voice count in supporting the future of beef production across the state.

During the 2025 legislative session, the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association advocated for practical solutions that help cattle producers do business more efficiently.

One of those efforts resulted in Act 621 of 2025, establishing a farmer sales tax identification card. Beginning January 2, 2026, producers can apply through the Arkansas Taxpayer Access Point at atap.arkansas.gov. The application will require 3 years of tax documents or, for young and beginning farmers, the completion of a 3-year business plan form that will be found on the website.

This tool is designed to simplify the exemption process while safeguarding the integrity of the system.

We’re proud to continue investing in the next generation of agricultural leaders. Applications for the Collegiate Summer Internship Program opened in January, connecting students with hands-on experience in production agriculture and ACA operations. Encourage your eligible students to apply!

Join the ACA Top Hand Club!

If you recruit 15 new memberships OR 30 renewed memberships then you’re officially a Top Hand! Choice of prizes this year include jackets, partial registration to convention or this cool buckle courtesy of Preferred Livestock Products ! We're grateful for their support of this program this year!

Just make sure your name is on the signed by/recruited by line on the renewal cards, online form, or receipt book.

For six years, the University of Arkansas has hosted the final session of ACLC, providing producers with insight into the beef industry beyond the farm gate. In 2025, the program expanded to allow producers to nominate a feeder calf.

Selected participants receive:

  • Feed intake data

  • Carcass performance data

  • Meat from their animal

Requirements:

  • Calf weight: 750-950 lbs. by May 2026

  • Preference for pre-conditioned animals

  • Producer must be an ACA member

Cost: $500 if your calf is selected. Limited spots available. Apply now!

Welcome Cassidy May Horton!

We’re thrilled to celebrate a special addition to the ACA family — Cassidy May Horton, born in December to our Executive Vice President, Michelle Bufkin Horton and her husband Ryan!. Congratulations to the Hortons on their newest little member!

Producers Weather the Snow & Ice

January brought a challenging winter storm to parts of Arkansas, with snow and ice impacting producers across the state. We’re grateful for the resilience and cooperation shown by Arkansas cattlemen and women during these conditions. As always, we encourage producers to stay safe, check livestock conditions regularly, and reach out if support is needed.

Looking Ahead in February

As we move into February, ACA remains focused on membership growth, education, and producer advocacy. Keep an eye out for upcoming events, deadlines, and resources designed to serve you and your operation.
